What is Standard First Aid with CPR-C?
Standard First Aid with CPR-C is a 16-hour Canadian Red Cross certification covering emergency first aid, CPR, and AED use for adults, children, and infants. It meets national occupational health and safety requirements and is recognised across Canada.
It sits one level above Emergency First Aid, which covers roughly half the material in half the time. Standard First Aid adds the secondary survey, ongoing patient care, bone and joint injuries, head and spinal injuries, and a wider range of sudden medical emergencies.
The certificate is valid for three years and can be renewed through a shorter recertification course before it expires.

How the Blended Course Works
We run Standard First Aid as a blended course, which means you do the theory at home and the practical skills with us.
Part one, online, about 8 hours. Interactive Red Cross modules you complete at your own pace, on your own schedule. Start and stop as often as you like. Most students spread it across a few evenings.
Part two, in class, one day. You come to our Vancouver centre for hands-on practice on CPR manikins and AED trainers, group scenarios, and your Red Cross certification assessment.
The advantage is simple: one day away from work or family instead of two, without cutting any content. You cover the same 16 hours either way.

Does Standard First Aid Count as OFA Level 2?
Yes, in one direction. WorkSafeBC recognises Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid as equivalent to WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid (OFA Level 2), so you can serve as a designated OFA Level 2 attendant holding a Standard First Aid certificate.
It does not work in reverse. Because the Red Cross course includes child and infant CPR and the WorkSafeBC course does not, an OFA Level 2 certificate cannot be substituted where Standard First Aid is specifically required.
This matters if you work somewhere that needs both, such as a recreation centre, a school, or a childcare facility with a workplace first aid requirement. Standard First Aid covers both situations. OFA Level 2 covers only one.

Renewing Your Standard First Aid Certificate
If your Standard First Aid certificate is still valid and hasn’t expired, you can renew with our shorter Standard First Aid Recertification course. One day, $100 plus GST, and it resets your certification for another three years.
If your certificate has already lapsed, you’ll need to take the full course again, so it’s worth booking a month or two before your expiry date.

Course basics
How long is the Standard First Aid course?
16 hours in total. We run it as a blended course: about 8 hours of online learning you complete at your own pace, then one full day in our Vancouver classroom for hands-on practice and certification.
How much does Standard First Aid with CPR-C cost in Vancouver?
$185 plus GST. That covers your online modules, all equipment and materials, instruction, assessment, and your Canadian Red Cross certificate. There are no additional fees.
Do I need any experience or another certificate first?
No. There are no prerequisites for Standard First Aid. The course starts from the beginning and assumes no medical background. We recommend a minimum age of 13.
Does Standard First Aid include CPR for children and infants?
Yes. Standard First Aid includes CPR/AED Level C, which covers adults, children, and infants. This is the main difference between the Red Cross courses and WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid, which is adult-focused.
What does CPR-C mean?
CPR Level C is the Canadian Red Cross designation for CPR training covering all age groups: adults, children, and infants. Level A covers adults only. Level C is what most employers, childcare licensing bodies, and schools require.
Is there an exam?
You’ll complete a written assessment and demonstrate practical skills during the classroom day. Everything assessed is taught in the course, and our instructors work through the material with you rather than testing you cold.
What happens if I don’t pass?
You get your money back. That’s our guarantee. It rarely comes up, because the day is structured so you can actually perform each skill before you’re assessed on it.
The blended format
Do I have to do the online portion before class?
Yes. The classroom day is entirely hands-on practice and assessment, which only works if you’ve covered the theory first. We send your online access link as soon as you book, so you can start straight away.
How long does the online portion take?
About 8 hours, split into modules you can start and stop whenever you like. Most students spread it across a few evenings in the week before their classroom date.
Can I take the whole course in person instead?
Our public Standard First Aid classes run in the blended format only. For private and corporate groups we can deliver the full course entirely in class at your workplace or at our centre. Contact us if you need a fully in-person option for your team.
Is a blended certificate the same as a fully in-class one?
Yes. You receive the identical Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Level C certificate, valid for three years and recognised nationwide. The delivery format is not recorded on the certificate.
Which course do I need?

Yes. If a job posting or licensing body names Standard First Aid specifically, Emergency First Aid will not satisfy it.
Which course do childcare workers and early childhood educators need in BC?
Our Childcare First Aid course is an alternative built specifically around early childhood settings. Check with your licensing officer or employer which one they require, or send us the requirement and we’ll tell you.
My job posting just says “first aid required.” Which course is that?
Usually Standard First Aid or OFA Level 1, depending on the industry. If the posting mentions WorkSafeBC, it’s Occupational First Aid. If it mentions CPR Level C, working with children, or national recognition, it’s Standard First Aid. Send us the posting and we’ll tell you which one it is.

How long is Standard First Aid valid?
Three years from the date of your course.
How do I renew my Standard First Aid certificate?
Take our one-day Standard First Aid Recertification course, $100 plus GST, before your current certificate expires. If it has already lapsed you’ll need to retake the full course, so it’s worth booking a month or two ahead. We also email past students before their expiry date.
Is this certificate recognised outside British Columbia?
Yes. Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid meets national occupational health and safety standards and is recognised across Canada. This is one of the main advantages over provincial WorkSafeBC certification if you may work in another province.
When do I get my certificate?
Your Canadian Red Cross certificate is issued digitally after you complete the classroom day and assessment, usually within one business day. You can download and share it immediately.

What should I bring to class?
Government-issued photo ID, comfortable clothing you can kneel and move in, and confirmation that you’ve finished the online portion. We supply all materials and equipment.
How big are the classes?
We cap Standard First Aid at 18 students. Every student gets their own pocket mask and hands-on time with our manikins and AED trainers, so nobody spends the day watching from the back of the room.
Is parking available?
Yes, free parking for all students at our Glen Drive location. We’re also a short walk from Main Street-Science World SkyTrain station and served by several bus routes.
For employers
Can you train my team on site?
Yes. We run private Standard First Aid courses at your workplace anywhere in the Lower Mainland, or at our Vancouver, Burnaby, or Surrey centres. Private groups can take the course fully in class or blended, whichever suits your scheduling. Contact us for a group quote.
Can my employer be invoiced?
Yes. We invoice employers directly for group and corporate bookings, and can accommodate purchase orders and standard payment terms. Get in touch and we’ll set it up.
Do you offer Standard First Aid in Burnaby or Surrey?
