Busy schedule? No problem. With blended first aid courses, you can complete part of your training online at home and finish the rest with a short in-person session at Fundamental First Aid.

Our Red Cross blended first aid programs are the perfect solution for anyone who wants high-quality, WorkSafeBC-approved training but needs a more flexible schedule. You’ll receive the same certification as the traditional in-class course, but with less classroom time and more convenience.

About Fundamental First Aid

Fundamental First Aid is a Red Cross and WorkSafeBC-approved training center located at 1868 Glen Dr #206, Vancouver, BC V6A 4K4.

We provide first aid and CPR training for individuals, companies, and organizations throughout Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, and North Vancouver. Our instructors bring years of real-world experience from emergency response, healthcare, and safety instruction.

Whether you’re renewing your certification or learning first aid for the first time, our blended course options make training more accessible and easier to fit into your life.

What is a Blended First Aid Course?

A blended first aid course combines online learning with in-person instruction. You complete the theory portion online at your own pace, followed by a shorter, hands-on classroom session to practice and demonstrate your skills.

This format allows students to learn at home or on their own time while still benefiting from the practical, supervised training that the Red Cross and WorkSafeBC require for certification.

You’ll earn the same certification as students who complete the full in-person version. The only difference is how you get there, with more flexibility and less classroom time.

Red Cross Blended Course Options

At Fundamental First Aid, we offer blended versions of several Canadian Red Cross first aid and CPR courses, most approved by WorkSafeBC for workplace and community use.

Emergency First Aid (Blended)

A one-day certification course that teaches how to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies.
Blended format: Complete approximately 4 hours online, then 4.5 hours in-person session for hands-on training and certification.

Standard First Aid (Blended)

A comprehensive course covering both life-threatening and secondary injuries.
Blended format: Complete 6 to 8 hours of online learning, then attend one full in-person day (8 hours) at Fundamental First Aid to complete your certification.

CPR and AED Courses (Blended)

Available for CPR Level C and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications.
Blended format: Complete 3 hours of online study, then join a 3 hour in-person session focused on hands-on CPR and AED skills.

Every blended course meets Red Cross certification requirements and provides students with the same level of competency and confidence as traditional full-length classes.

How the Blended Format Works

The blended model is designed to make your learning experience more efficient and flexible without reducing quality or safety standards.

Step 1: Complete the Online Portion at Home

Once you register, you’ll receive access to the Red Cross online learning platform, where you can complete the theoretical portion of the course.
You’ll study topics such as:

  • How to assess emergencies and manage hazards

  • CPR theory and emergency response steps

  • Understanding medical emergencies such as choking, bleeding, or shock

  • The role of the bystander and legal considerations

The online portion can be completed at your own pace, on any device, from anywhere. You can pause and resume as needed, making it easy to fit around work, school, or family life.

Step 2: Attend the In-Person Session

Once you’ve completed the online portion, you’ll attend the in-class practical session at Fundamental First Aid.
This part focuses on:

  • CPR and AED practice on mannequins

  • First aid for wounds, fractures, and burns

  • Emergency scenario training

  • Instructor evaluations and feedback

The in-person component usually takes half the time of a traditional full course. When finished, you’ll receive your official Canadian Red Cross certificate, valid for three years.

Benefits of Blended First Aid Courses

Blended courses have quickly become one of the most popular training formats offered by the Canadian Red Cross. Students and employers love the flexibility and time savings while still getting the same recognized certification.

Key benefits include:

  • Flexible scheduling: Learn the theory online whenever it fits your schedule.

  • Less classroom time: Cut in-person training hours in half compared to traditional courses.

  • Same certification: Receive a Red Cross certificate identical to full in-class students.

  • Interactive online learning: Videos, quizzes, and case studies help make theory easy to understand.

  • WorkSafeBC-approved: Meets all provincial workplace first aid requirements.

  • Accessible for everyone: Ideal for busy professionals, students, and parents.

The blended model allows students to learn at their own pace while still meeting the national and provincial standards required for certification.
