Such a great experience! Our instructor for the day, Ezequiel, was incredibly knowledgeable and thorough. He made sure every step was clearly explained, reinforcing key points so nothing was missed. I left the Fundamentals course with greater awareness, stronger critical-thinking skills, and the confidence to take preventative action or respond effectively in a critical situation. Loved the course, the building and the space used for the day.

Great course and very good and knowledgeable Instructor!
Our instructor Bivaik was amazing in transmitting us her knowledge, covering every detail, allowing plenty of time for questions and making sure everyone got sufficient hands on practice. Furthermore she was kind and patient, making sure we would have a pleasant experience, and she made an extra effort to assure we are all well prepared to attend to an emergency.
The classroom was well equipped providing all the necessary material for studying and practicing emergency scenarios including books, a projector screen, mannequins, first aid material, barriers, defibrillators, mats, and last but not least plenty of coffee and tea.
I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for first aid and CPR training.
Thank you for your services!

Jone and Blake taught with real enthusiasm, making the class engaging and easy to follow. I loved that we got to practice first aid through realistic case scenarios. It made everything feel practical and easy to remember.

Both instructors were patient and approachable, always making sure everyone felt confident with the skills. The place was well set up, and the course was hands-on without feeling rushed. I left feeling prepared for real-life situations and would definitely recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn first aid in a supportive, interactive environment.
I recently completed my Safety First Aid training with Safety BC, taught by Jone, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Jone is an excellent instructor — clear, patient, and very knowledgeable. He explains every step in a simple, practical way that makes you feel confident and prepared for real-life situations.

The course was well-organized, hands-on, and full of useful examples. Jone made the class engaging from start to finish and made sure everyone understood the material before moving on. I left the training feeling much more capable and ready to handle emergencies safely and correctly.

I highly recommend Safety BC and especially Jone for anyone who needs professional, high-quality First Aid training.

If you want, I can also rewrite it in a shorter or more casual style.

First time attending a Fundamental First Aid course and I highly recommend. Great location,(free parking!) Very knowledgeable and helpful instructor. I found the room quite hot and stuffy, and I wish there were snacks available 😅 but besides that I recommend this course! (Bring snacks, it's a long day of learning )

The course was fantastic--because of the teacher, the format, the clarity of the online portion, and the focus on the right stuff. Honestly, our instructor was exceptional, so knowledgeable, and a terrific speaker and storyteller. I loved her multi-leveled thinking of a critical situation, her ways of encouraging memory. I've taken these courses for over 40 years--sometimes instructors read off of slides (snore) and it was impossible to concentrate--but in this course, I learned in a way that totally engaged me, made me think of real life situations I've experienced, feel the importance of these skills and know how to retain them. I sure hope others take this course when it comes my turn to need the help of strangers.

I recently attended the Fundamental First Aid Course in Vancouver, and it was an excellent experience. The in-person Naloxone training was particularly valuable, and the instructor, Blake, was knowledgeable and supportive. I appreciated that they provided a Naloxone kit upon completion of the training, which adds a practical element to the course. Overall, I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to enhance their first aid skills, especially with Naloxone training.

His teaching style was engaging and memorable, motivating me to apply what I learned in real life, rather than just treating it as another certification. I completed my level 1 certification a couple days ago with Ezequiel as my instructor. There were just me and another student that day so the learning process was rather more direct and engaging in a chill manner. The classroom and equipments were new and neat. I would definitely come back if I ever need to renew it or pursue a higher level.

Kathy was a great instructor, she was very mindful of time, what we were taking in, and ensuring the practical portion was the dominant experience. There was no time to be bored but there was plenty of opportunity to go over things and ask questions if we were stuck or not understanding. This was the best first-aid course I have taken yet!

Private Advanced OFA Level 3 Course at your Workplace

Advanced OFA Level 3 training can also be delivered as a private group course at your Surrey-area worksite.

Fundamental First Aid will bring all required training materials and equipment to certify your team in WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Level 3 (Advanced First Aid) right on-site, making it easy to train multiple attendants at once with minimal disruption to operations. This option is popular for employers across Surrey City Centre, Guildford, Fleetwood, Newton, Cloverdale, and South Surrey, as well as nearby areas like Delta, Langley, and Burnaby.

What is OFA Level 3?

OFA Level 3 is the most advanced first aid certification under WorkSafeBC’s Occupational First Aid Regulation. This 70-hour program is built for designated workplace attendants who may be responsible for emergency care at large worksites, higher-risk environments, or locations where access to advanced medical care may be delayed.

The course covers advanced emergency medical procedures for serious trauma, medical emergencies, and environmental exposure. You’ll learn how to assess a patient, manage airway and breathing concerns, control bleeding, treat shock, and stabilize injuries until BC Emergency Health Services arrives—or until safe transportation to a medical facility can be arranged.

OFA Level 3 training is highly hands-on and focused on real-world decision-making. In our central Surrey classes—convenient for students coming from Surrey City Centre (Whalley), Guildford, Fleetwood, Newton, Cloverdale, and South Surrey, and easily accessed via Surrey Central and Gateway SkyTrain stations—you’ll build the confidence to lead care in demanding, fast-moving workplace scenarios.

Who Needs OFA Level 3 Training?

OFA Level 3 certification is required for first aid attendants working at high-risk or less-accessible worksites as defined by WorkSafeBC. In and around Surrey and the Fraser Valley, that often includes:

  • Construction sites and industrial projects (high-rises, roadwork, civil projects)

  • Warehousing, distribution, and logistics yards (common in areas like Port Kells, Bridgeview, and the Scott Road industrial corridor)

  • Forestry and logging operations (often staged out of the Lower Mainland but operating in remote regions)

  • Remote worksites without quick access to hospitals or reliable ambulance response times

  • Utilities, marine, and field operations (including river and port-adjacent work along the Fraser River)

  • Oil and gas and mining projects (typically outside Metro Vancouver, but staffed by local workers)

  • Film and production crews working on-location outside the city or in challenging environments

WorkSafeBC requires employers to ensure an appropriately trained Occupational First Aid Attendant is available on site. For higher-risk operations—or where access to advanced medical care may be delayed—that often means having an OFA Level 3 attendant ready to lead emergency care until professional medical services take over.

What You’ll Learn in OFA Level 3

The OFA Level 3 course provides extensive hands-on training in advanced emergency medical care. You’ll learn both the theory and practical application of life-saving techniques through a mix of classroom instruction, skill stations, and realistic emergency simulations.

At our central Surrey training location—conveniently accessed from Surrey Central / Central City and just minutes from both Surrey Central and Gateway SkyTrain stations—students develop the confidence to respond effectively to serious workplace incidents, whether they work locally in Surrey’s industrial areas or travel to remote job sites across BC.

Course topics include:

  • Scene assessment and hazard management

  • Advanced patient assessment and record keeping

  • Critical airway management and rescue breathing

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

  • Use of oxygen therapy and suction devices

  • Managing head, neck, and spinal injuries

  • Fracture and dislocation management (splints and traction)

  • Major bleeding control and wound care

  • Shock management and vital sign monitoring

  • Managing medical emergencies (diabetic emergencies, seizures, stroke, etc.)

  • Safe patient packaging and transportation

  • Coordination with emergency medical services

Throughout the course, you’ll take part in practical exercises that mirror real worksite emergencies—especially the types of incidents that can happen in construction, logistics, utilities, and industrial environments common throughout Surrey and the Fraser Valley. By the end of the program, you’ll be able to complete thorough patient assessments, manage multiple casualties, and document your care according to WorkSafeBC standards.

Course Duration and Certification Details

The OFA Level 3 course is delivered over approximately 70 hours, typically spread across 10 in-class training days.

Key details:

  • Duration: 70 hours (2 weeks)

  • Format: Classroom instruction + intensive hands-on practice

  • Certification exam: Written and practical evaluation by a WorkSafeBC examiner

  • Certification validity: 3 years

  • Prerequisites: None (students must be at least 16 years old)

Our Surrey, BC classes are held in the heart of Surrey City Centre, conveniently located near Central City / SFU Surrey and just minutes from both Surrey Central and Gateway SkyTrain stations—making it easy to commute from Guildford, Fleetwood, Newton, Cloverdale, South Surrey, and nearby communities like Delta and Langley.

Upon successful completion of the written and practical exams, participants receive an Occupational First Aid Level 3 Certificate issued under WorkSafeBC’s program. This certification is recognized across British Columbia and qualifies you to serve as a designated first aid attendant for workplaces requiring an OFA Level 3 attendant.

Why OFA Level 3 Matters

High-risk worksites require more than basic first aid knowledge. When a serious injury happens—especially at a site where ambulance response may be delayed—the first aid attendant becomes the critical link between the patient and professional medical care.

OFA Level 3 training prepares you to:

  • Provide advanced care while awaiting transport or EMS arrival

  • Manage multiple patients during complex incidents

  • Recognize and respond quickly to life-threatening conditions

  • Maintain accurate records and communicate clearly with medical personnel

This matters in real workplaces across Surrey and the Fraser Valley—from busy construction zones and industrial yards to crews travelling out of the Lower Mainland for remote projects. In many cases, the actions of an OFA Level 3 attendant can make the difference between a full recovery and a long-term disability. This course builds the skill, confidence, and professionalism required to take charge when it counts.

Common Questions About OFA Level 3

OFA Level 3 certification is valid for three years. After that, you must complete a recertification course to maintain your credentials.

While WorkSafeBC certification is specific to BC, many other provinces and employers recognize it as equivalent to advanced occupational first aid. Always confirm with your employer or regulatory body.

We provide all training materials, equipment, and manuals. Bring government-issued photo ID, comfortable clothing, and a positive attitude. Some students choose to bring notebooks or snacks for long sessions.

Just a photo-ID, comfortable clothes and an open mind. We provide all supplies and materials needed to get you certified!

Yes. We can accommodate group registrations for companies or organizations that need to certify multiple employees.

No, there are no prerequisites for Advanced OFA Level 3. You can register for an Advanced First Aid course (Level 3 first aid course) with no previous first aid experience. That means that  you do not need to take Basic OFA Level 1 or Intermediate OFA Level 2 before taking this course.

Yes, OFA Level 3 (Advanced First Aid) includes adult CPR training and instruction on how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). In fact, every Vancouver First Aid course we offer includes CPR and AED training.

No, Level 3 First Aid is not currently offered as an online course. In-person instruction is essential to evaluating the skills of the first aid attendant therefore WorkSafeBC requires that Occupational First Aid Level 3 courses take place with a qualified instructor present.

Yes, there are four multiple choice practice quizzes during the week and a 100 question multiple choice exam that you will complete at the end of your class. You have 120 minutes to complete the test, and you must get 70 of the questions correct in order to pass the course.

All of the questions on the written exam will have been asked on one of the four practice quizzes, therefore you will have time to study the material needed to pass the written exam ahead of time.

The cost of an Occupational First Aid Level 3 course in the Vancouver area ranges from $850-950.

As you can see above, at Fundamental First Aid we charge $900 which is within the average price range.

However, there are other factors that you should consider when assessing the cost of the course, such as the cost of parking, whether or not you have to pay extra for a pocket mask or manual, and if there are any extra’s included.

At Fundamental First Aid we have free parking all day, complimentary water, tea, and coffee, and you receive a free manual and pocket mask that you can take home and keep!

All employers in British Columbia who have more than 10 employees working at the same time are required to have a certified Occupational First Aid (OFA) attendant on site. The number of attendants, and the level of certification required by the attendants, is determined by 3 factors as outlined in Schedule 3-A of the WorkSafeBC OHS Regulation:

  1. Number of employees working at the same time
  2. Distance to the closest hospital (via ambulance)
  3. Risk of injury at the worksite (low risk, moderate risk, or high risk)

In order to determine whether your work site is low risk, moderate risk, or high risk, you will need to refer to the WorkSafeBC website to find your classification unit by clicking here.

Once you know your risk classification, click here to check Schedule 3-A to determine your minimum level of first aid. You may only need Level 1 or Level 2 first aid

If you would like help determining the level of first aid that is required at your workplace, please contact us at [email protected], or click the chat bot on the bottom right of your screen!
